Mould

Mould is quickly becoming a very serious issue in our industry. People seem to be more and more sensitive to environmental conditions than ever before and because of this we need to react quickly and efficiently when dealing with mold situations.

Mould needs a few things to grow – If we remove one of the elements below mould will likely not survive.

• Organic food source
• Moisture/Water
• Air

Mildew can begin to form after 48 hours
- Mildew is the early onset of mold growth.

What can we do?

• Contain the area so airborne spores do not contaminate the rest of the building.
• Block off cold air return vents & HVAC systems from aff ecting other area’s.
• Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment or PPE.
• Dry things quickly.
• Remove the food source.
• Apply anti-microbial products to effected areas.

ASBESTOS

Do you have asbestos in your home?

Asbestos is not just found in vehicle brakes. It was common practice to use asbestos in many building products before it was banned for these uses in the early 1980’s.

If your home was built before 1984 then there is a chance you could have asbestos containing products in your home.

Some common building materials to look for:

• Ceiling tiles
• VCT floor tiles
• Lathe and Plaster walls or ceilings
• Insulation around water pipes or heat ducting
• Vermiculite insulation was often blown into attics

What should you do if you suspect you could have asbestos?

• The best thing is to leave it alone.
• Don’t start to rip it out. You will disturb the fibers and make them airborne.
• We can take a sample for you and have it analyzed.
• If you have asbestos we can give you suggestions and an estimate for removal.
